About US

Welcome to Countryside Weimaraners

Where silver shadows roam, and puppies are raised with heart.

Here at Countryside Weimaraners, we are passionate about breeding healthy, happy, and well-socialized Weimaraners. We are a small family-run kennel located in the beautiful Sacramento Valley. Our journey began almost forty years ago when we started breeding Yellow Labradors—a breed we still hold close to our hearts. Over time, we were drawn to the elegance, intelligence, and loyal nature of the Weimaraner, and we have never looked back.

Family-Raised Dogs with Heart

At Countryside Weimaraners, our dogs aren’t just pets; they are family. From the moment they’re born, our Weimaraner puppies are loved, handled, and raised right in the middle of our home life. They grow up surrounded by the everyday rhythm of family living—cuddles on the couch, kids playing in the yard, bedtime routines, and kitchen chaos—and they are included in it all.

Our dogs don’t live in kennels or get “rotated through”—they live with us, travel with us, nap under our feet, and follow us from room to room. They are part of birthday parties, camping trips, lazy Sundays, and every part of the joy (and noise!) that comes with a big, loving family.

My wife, our children, and now even our grandchildren all play an active role in caring for and socializing with the dogs. Whether it’s feeding time, grooming, early training, or just playing fetch in the yard, everyone pitches in—because these dogs aren’t just bred here… they’re raised with us.

Why We Choose Weimaraners

Weimaraners have a rare combination of beauty, brains, and heart. Their sleek silver-gray coats and expressive eyes might be the first thing you notice, but it’s their affectionate nature, goofy spirit, and deep loyalty that make them unforgettable.

Nicknamed the “Gray Ghost,” these dogs earned their haunting moniker from their stealthy grace, silvery coats, and ability to quietly shadow their humans wherever they go—always present, always watching, always by your side.

Many of our dogs come from strong hunting lines and have a natural drive for field work—they love the challenge and thrive with purpose. But even if hunting isn’t your thing, Weimaraners are just as happy to hike, run, explore, and travel with you. They’re always up for the next adventure, no matter what it looks like.

These dogs are happiest when they’re active and included in your daily life. Whether it's chasing tennis balls in the yard, splashing through streams, or sprinting full speed across an open field, they bring endless energy and enthusiasm to every moment.

One of the most remarkable things about Weimaraners is their intelligence. They are quick learners, intuitive problem-solvers, and often one step ahead of you. This brainpower makes them highly trainable, which is why Weimaraner training is essential. It also means they need mental stimulation, consistency, and engagement to thrive. Boredom is not their friend! Puzzle games, obedience work, and even learning new tricks keep them sharp and happy.

Weimaraners are known for their loyal, energetic, and intelligent temperament. They form strong bonds with their people and thrive on attention, structure, and activity. Because of their intelligence and sensitivity, early socialization and consistent training are strongly encouraged. We highly recommend formal obedience training, as it not only strengthens the bond between dog and owner but also helps Weimaraners become confident, well-mannered companions for life.

And speaking of those eyes—our Weimaraner puppies are born with bright blue eyes, which slowly transition to a stunning amber or blue-gray as they grow. It’s a small glimpse into how these dogs transform, both in looks and personality, as they mature into devoted companions.

Weimaraner Puppies: Playful, Curious, and Full of Personality

Appearance: Our Weimaraner puppies are born with dazzling blue eyes that gradually shift to a rich amber or blue-gray as they mature into adulthood. Their coats are smooth, short, and a stunning silvery-gray - hallmarks of the breed. Their tails are traditionally docked at just a few days old, as is customary for the breed standard. Personality: Playful, bold, and eager to explore, these family-raised dogs are a bundle of curiosity. They are affectionate and crave companionship from the very beginning. Development: In their early months, Weimaraner puppies thrive on routine, gentle guidance, and plenty of play. They respond quickly to structure and love being part of a family’s daily rhythm. Training: Early socialization and basic obedience are key for Weimaraner training. They're smart and learn quickly but also need consistency and positive reinforcement.

Adult Weimaraners: Athletic, Intelligent, and Devoted

Size: Males typically weigh 70 - 90 lbs. and stand 25 - 27 inches tall. Females weigh 55 - 75 lbs and stand 23–25 inches tall. Temperament: Known for their loyalty, sensitivity, and gentle protectiveness, adult Weimaraners become deeply attached to their people. They often follow their humans from room to room, earning them the nickname "Gray Ghost." Energy: Weimaraners are high-energy dogs that thrive with daily activity. Many of these family-raised dogs have a strong natural instinct to hunt, making them excellent companions in the field for upland game and bird hunting. They enjoy working with purpose, following their nose, and staying focused on a task. Whether hunting or playing, they are happiest when physically and mentally engaged. They love to run, fetch, swim, hike, and are natural athletes with a strong prey drive. Intelligence: Incredibly smart and intuitive, adult Weimaraners excel with continued training and mental stimulation, which is particularly important for Weimaraner puppies. Boredom can lead to mischief, so they do best in homes that provide both physical and mental engagement. Trainability: They are eager to please but respond best to positive reinforcement and clear structure. Weimaraner training is highly encouraged and helps bring out the best in their temperament.

Our Policies at Countryside Weimaraners

We care deeply about the health, happiness, and future of every Weimaraner puppy we raise as part of our commitment to providing family-raised dogs. To ensure our puppies are placed in the best homes possible, we follow these guidelines:

🩺 Health & Care

All Weimaraner puppies receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a full veterinary health check before going to their new homes. Puppies come with an AKC registration application and a written health guarantee.

🏠 Adoption Requirements

We require potential families to fill out an application so we can match the right puppy to the right home. Our Weimaraner puppies are ready for their new homes no earlier than 8 weeks of age. We do not place puppies in homes where they will be left alone for long hours without proper care.

🐾 Spay/Neuter & Breeding

Companion puppies are sold with a spay/neuter agreement. Breeding rights are only granted to approved homes with demonstrated experience and commitment to the breed standard.

💞 Lifetime Commitment

If at any time you cannot keep your Countryside Weimaraner, we ask that you contact us first. We will always take our dogs back or help find them a loving new home.

✈️ Pick-Up & Transportation

We prefer in-person pick-up to ensure we meet each new family. Safe transport options can be discussed for out-of-area buyers. We also encourage new owners to engage in Weimaraner training to ensure a smooth transition for both the puppy and the family.
